96 has a system different from all newer models.

Those two appear to be the same, and not the correct remote for a '96. The '96 remote has two small buttons next to each other on one side and has a small hole instead of the wide slot for attaching to a keychain.

I have what appears to be the remote module under my seat also. I bought a used remote on Ebay, but haven't been able to get it to work.

'96 remote is about 1" by 1.5", two buttons, has small keyhole offcenter on bottom.
