Default Slight Shudder Low RPM Acceleration

Anyone have this problem. When I first begin to accelerate a slight shudder or vibration is felt. Not bad, just a little annoying. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

Check your wheels & tires. make sure they are balanced.

Wheels & Tires are in check. I've read a few other forums and think it might be related to the front engine mount. It happens at such a low speed that it makes sense to me. It's when I first start going. Thank you for your response.

Default What about when you get off the gas?

Do you feel some shudder then, too?

It's smooth sailing the rest of the time. Sometimes I feel vibration through the gas peddle.

Default It could be the drive axles - they like to act up on acceleration.

I get a shudder when I get off the gas, especially in 2nd and 3rd gear, due to a failing forward engine mount (torque rod). I can't say I feel it in the gas pedal, but the whole car shudders a bit.

Thanks, is there any easy way to check a drive axle? The rubber surrounding is intact. Thanks for your help.

Default Does anybody know how much (if any) play a drive axle may have?

If I grab the drivce axles on my car, I can feel a tiny bit of play at the outer CV joint. I'm not sure how much is allowable. I used to hear a clonking noise (felt it, too) when accelerating uphill, but the problem has vanished over time.

Are you sure the tie-rod ends are not worn?

Default I think its more of a foward-to-rear buck...

front to back, back to front, visa versa.

I know exactly what hes talking about as my car has been doing the same thing for a while now.

I have since then put in the APR snub mount again and it seemed to help a little but I think the primary mounts need to be replaced, possibly a couple subframe mounts and definately my lower control arms..

I swear guys, im in a really bad situation. Im working in a VW/Audi parts dept now and just get my hands on sooo much crap. I just keep buyiung stuff telling myself that if im going to do some front end work, im going to do it all at once. The parts are pilling up now and I need to get on the ball. All im waiting on now are shocks. I have the whole front end of my car sitting in my trunk at at the house, down to every last nut and bolt -well, except for the motor mounts.

Anyone have a nice new set of Koni adjustables laying around? ;-)
