So for those of you running the S3 hose kits... and the engine cover..
you notice that the engine cover is carving a slight groove in the silicone elbow?
I just got my car back (had to give up the TT finally ) and went to check its oil and noticed that I'm starting to get a lil groove. Other than having to take off the engine cover, there any other way to fix this lil issue? I like the look of the cover on the engine more than with it off... so I'm just curious.
Thanks!

Manufacturing tolerances; mine didn't do that on the A4 but I noticed it touched slightly on the 90
has to do with how high/low/forward/rearward the engine is sitting in relation to the airbox, or more specifically the MAF attached to the air box.
Easiest fix I've found is to grind away a little pastic from the engine cover. More correct/long lasting fix is to modify (shorten) upper/lower elbow lengths where they connect to the recovery sleeve and to rotate the upper elbow clockwise (when viewed from above) which allows the crossover hose to sit lower while having a very slight, gradual curve rearward bewtween the recovery sleeve and MAF outlet.
In all cases lower and slight rearward movement is the key.
My A4 had and now my 90 has a perfect 1/8" gap between engine cover and hose full/length of the hose contour relief in engine cover.
Hope this helps (least it got me away from my visitors for 10 minutes). Got any others I might be able to help with? ;-)

Two non-perfect options that I know of . . .
First, you could trim the verical ends off the silicone elbows where they connect with the recovery sleeve. Advantage: the hose will better fit under the engine cover. Disadvantage: the hose, now lower, will "dent" where it hits the ICV connector, slightly diminishing the air flow.
Second, you could raise the bracket into which the engine cover screws into--I used nylon spacers and longer screws. Advantage: you do not need to touch the hose. Disadvantage: the engine cover will no longer insert seamlessly into the valve covers and front accessory belt cover.
If you feel adventurous, you could exercise a third option: trim the side and/or underside of the engine cover itself if you have just one slight problem area.
As they say, engineering is the art of compromise. ;-)

Engineering is also a science of making something easy...
into a project At least that's my experiences so far with my ME degree haha.
Thanks for the tips. I'll have to start playing with it. Until then though, I think I'll be pulling the cover off so that I don't dig any bigger of a groove in my hose.

I installed hose and made it fit with the engine cover, then never ran with the cover...
on the silver A4 and thought it looked great. Then I did the same thing with the 90 but found it looked awful in the red engine bay with no engine cover. Weird I know but there it is... silver looked good without but red looks better with. Go figgah!
