I have the stock airbox with VS. I know there is a slight performance increase with the screen removed, but I like the feeling of extra protection it gives me. I had to replace my MAF at the dealer a few years back and I don't want to drop $500+ on something that could have been avoided. (The sad part is I probably could have just used contact cleaner on the senor...ugh).
So... I've heard that if any large particles get pass the air filter "you have bigger problems to worry about" ... but are there any other possible issues besides throwing a CEL?
Thanks,
Mike

the air filter is the only protection against dirt/debris hitting the sensor elements. And truth be known there's simply not enough velocity going thru the tract to move anything very fast or at high enough speed to do any damage. Even a BB in there would roll up the bottom of the intake tract rather than fly thru there like a bullet.
