Is the thermostat diff than the coolant temp sensor?
If so, how do I go about replacing the coolant temp sensor. This weekend Mr. D is helping me do thermostat/timing belt etc work, but I think the temp sensor issue might be whats making me throw a CEL, so I could fix that on my own time (since I'll already be in get-stuff-done Mr. Fixit mode
)

Anyone replaced the coolant sensor on 12V A4s? I think it is located behind the engine block, under
the idle air control. It looks like it is really
hard to get to, without disconnecting a lot of hoses and wires. Any trick to this? Thanks.
