what's a good price for a new EGR valve?
I have a 1996 2.8MQ that's currently in the shop. The mech. is positive it's my EGR valve that needs replacing, and told me the dealership is wanting $400. Here's the fault code it's throwing-- 16785 - EGR System: Insufficient Flow. I looked online and the cheapest I could find was $320 + $35 shipping overnight. Is there a cheaper place I can purchase this part? TIA.

Its really not that bad...
Youll need a NEW EGR valve gasket (026131547) and a throttle body gasket (078133073). While youre in there, you should also do a new plenum gasket that sits on the lip of the TB(078129949). Pull the plenum off, diconnect the cable for the TB, remove the TB. Two bolts hold the valve to the IM, take em out and you should be able to bend the EGR tube enough to get at the passage. Take the long straight rod of a coat hanger and marr the end of it to make it a type of screw tip and it will actually dig its way through the hard stuff. Make sure you get it all!

IMHO you should remove the intake manifold......
get the intake manifold to head gaskets. removing the intake manifold makes the job WAY easyer (cleaning the EGR passage)..and you can even open the I.M. itself to clean it out (trust me...its dirty) If you open it....get a new upper I.M. to lower I.M. gasket
Here are some pics of my I.M. wich was "clean" compaired to some I saw.

best bore cleaning method is 3/8" braided steel cable with ends flared...
that way it has dozens of wires scoring all the way to the walls. When used in a cordless or electric drill its the perfect "roto-rooter" bore-brush when used with aerosol carb or brake cleaner as the flared tip cleans 100% of the bore's inside diameter down to the metal. And a foot long piece is less than $1 at Home Depot/Lowes.
