2.0T and Ethanol Containing Fuels

I remember reading somewhere that ethanol wasn't good for the 2.0T. Anyone know? Every gas station in my area now has ethanol blended in with their gasoline. My gas mileage has decreased from around 22-23 combined highway/city to 20-21 combined. I don't use the computer and calculate my mpg by actual miles driven divided by the gallons needed to fill. I always reset my trip so I know the miles from fill to fill. I don't top off and stop when it clicks to be consistent from one fill to the next. I'm wondering if its maybe the ethanol in the gas. Also at my last service they updated the software.

Ethanol has lower energy per unit volume than normal gasoline, so adding 10% will lower gas mileage, but the tendancy to detonate will be lower, so it helps, if the timing is advanced a hair.
One gets a similar result adding MTBE to fuel.
