Hello all,
I come from the world of BMWs and the VAG engines are somewhat a mistery to me. My girlfriend bought a 2008 Audi TT 2.0TFSI EA113.
Recently it has developed a very loud head noise, but the thing is it only happens on idle, if I give the car any revs the noise disappears. In addition to that the noise is not there when the car is warm on idle.
Now this sounds very much oil related, allegedly the oil is at around 5000km so it's not completely gone bad. First time I heard it I checked the oil level and it was near the minimum, I added some and it intermittently went away. But at this point it does it constantly on idle, even with the correct amount of oil.
The car, again allegedly, has had chain tensioner done but it might be it. Other culprit could be the cam follower which seems like a relatively easy DIY to check. My fear is that it's the oil pump not doing it's job at idle and not getting enough oil in the head.
Here is the sound the car makes. It's from a phone so it is slightly exaggerated but that's the noise. I can't tell for certain but it seems to happen through the head and not just the chain section.
