Hey everyone
Recently purchased an 2018 Audi Q5 and was hoping to get some help with oil change. I did the extraction method but was only able to get about 3.5 Litres out (3.7 Quarts). I've scoured the forum and internet but with not much help. The only thread I found that had an explanation was a 2019 Q7 2.0T owner only being able to extract 3.5 Quarts and was eventually able to extract 5 Quarts with a smaller diameter tube (3/16" outer diameter instead of 1/4" outer diameter).
Has anyone had any trouble extracting oil out? Am I doing anything wrong? I warmed it up and even parked it on a slight decline so the oil would be more towards the front. Had the oil cap off as well as the oil filter off. I'm not new to doing my own oil and filter changes (have been doing them for years) but this is my first time doing the extraction method.

It's going to be about getting the tube inserted the correct distance. On an EA888 Gen2 2.0T, that's 26.5". But no idea what that distance is on an EA888 Gen3 2.0T. That's the first thing you'll want to confirm. I believe the tube on mine is 7/32" O.D., and that goes in 26.5" just fine on the Gen2. No idea if that would hang up too early on a Gen3. But the question is the same for the B9 A4 and B9 A5 CYMC and DBPA engines, as for your DAYB engine; they are all Gen3 engines.

My process goes something like this:
Stick the tube in as far as it can go, then back off a little. Suck all that I can get out.
Pull the tube partially (half) out, then put it back in a ways, but keep pressure on the extractor. When you hit oil, it will stop making the burble noise (+ you will see oil moving in the line). I usually do this 3-4 times to make sure I get all the oil. I cross reference this with how full my extractor is. I have an 8 quart extractor, so if it's about 3/4 full I know that most of the oil has been extracted successfully. CYMC engines hold about 5.5 quarts of oil.

I know mine is 26.5" from experience, so I've got mine marked with tape. Insert to correct depth, pump out all the oil. When it's at the very end, I'll move it around a little just to be sure. But to get 99% of the oil out, you should be able to insert it once to the correct depth and just pump. This reinserting the hose thing is completely unnecessary; it simply means you've not figured out the correct depth. The engine is designed for extraction, so the oil pan design assists that end.

Okay. Thank you all for the info.I'll make sure to see if it gets down to 26.5" or so and keep the suv on level ground instead on a decline. I already tried pulling it back a little and putting it in multiple times but didn't do anything. I will also check the diameter of the tube.

26.5" is in a Gen2. You have a Gen3. You'll want to fish around to see if anyone doing their own extractions on a Gen3 have determined the actual proper distance to the bottom point of the pan. But around that is probably a good starting point. Being level is definitely a thing.
