Hi folks,
A few months ago I've bought an Audi A4 B9/B8 Avant with a 2.0L 250hp TFSI Quattro engine.
1 Preowner, bought it with 82.000Km (September 2023), 94.000Km (now).
After some time I've noticed the high fuel consumption. I am constantly around 8-9 l/100km sometimes 11 l/100km or even 14 l/100km resulting in an average max distance of 600km. For me it sounds like the fuel consumption measuring is complete trash.
One time, after refueling max distance was at 750km but usually its at 650km. However, I've never driven more than 630km with one tank and that moment my distance until empty was like 0km.
Going full throttle in 3rd, 4th or 6th gear (it's a manual transmission), to overtake a car on country road, either way results in a max range shrinked by 10-20km as if my car would consume 1-2 L of fuel on those 100m of full throttle.

- Should that consumption be that high?
- Ways to reduce consumption?
- How far do i get with a remaining range of 0km?
- Should I trust the flexible oil change plan or should i change oil more frequently?
- My car has no oil dipstick and i don't trust oil level sensors. Should I buy an Oil dipstick?
- Heard the oilpump has a to low oil pressure on low rpm causing damages to the engine. Should I upgrade the oil pump?
- What else to change?
- What are the must haves and where do I get tuning parts online?

I have the "same" engine - J623-CYMC with 6MT for Canada
- Fuel consumption rate is about the same as mine. My range typically shows 700-730m after I've refilled the pertrol tank - being turbocharged, consumption rate will change dramatically based on how heavy you are on the accelerator. Not sure why you need full throttle in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th to overtake as you speeds must then be in the 120+ km/hr range. However when overtaking on a single lane road, safety is most important and fuel consumption should be the last thing on your mind.
- You're lucky to have a manual transmission so you can easily choose the gear you want to be in. Keep light throttle between 1500-3000 rpm and your fuel use will be good. Don't lug the engine and change gears up or down as needed in a smooth fashion. Watch traffic pattern in front and stay off the brake as much as possible - it's all about driving style.
- Fuel pump depends on petrol in the tank for cooling; don't run tank down too low or you'll be needing to replace the pump sooner rather than later; I suggest always refilling when the guage shows 1/4 tank left or about 200 km Distance to Empty.
- Your call on oil change frequency; I change mine annually as I drive lightly and do less than 15,000km per year; many folks on this forum prefer 5000mi/7500 km change intervals.
- Yes buy a dipstick - I did but don't leave it in permanently; I use it monthly to check and compare with the MMI reading.
- Oil pump upgrade - don't know anything about why this would be needed; let the car warm up properly before driving hard
.
- Lots of upgrade kits available for the B9 - all depends on what you want to achieve.
- Do a search of this site in the B9 A4/A5 forums - lots of great tips and info on the many upgrade projects folks have done.
