Good afternoon,
I have a 2012 Audi Q5 that has compression issues in cylinder 1. I took the engine out and took it apart. I found a large chunk of metal in the oil pan, and a small piece of metal in the top of the head tangled up in a valve spring. Included is a picture of the pieces together. Trying to figure out where this came from. Any help appreciated.
Be easier if there was a ruler along it so we had some idea how large an object it is. Wonder if that's the metal under the oil fill cap. That thumb shaped cutout, does that look prefabricated or due to the damage?

You are correct, it was the metal shield under the oil fill cap.
