I was left with no option but to trade up my previous car 2016 A6 due to some oil leak issues in it, after driving it for 30k (107,000k on it). The mechanic told me that happened because I maybe went after cheap
oil change options that created that issue. Now that I have a 2017 A4 ( only around 32k on it), I thought of always keeping its engine in the best condition possible by buying the oil and oil filter myself
and just getting it done by a mechanic. But I am not entirely sure how to know which filter goes into it. Do you look it up on the web just by putting your car specs or is there any other way to choose the
exact same filter as it currently has? Below is the pic of what I found online. is this it?
Yeah, they look like the two options I would consider. Keep in mind that "VAG" doesn't make pieces; Hengst or Mann would be making and supplying those filters to the Audi factory anyway. The only reason I still use Audi OE filters on my B8 is because they are the same price as the Mann and Hengst OEM ones. In your case, the OEM ones are a bit cheaper than the Audi OE ones.
I would say though, measure the old filter and the new filter and make sure they are the same length. I can't remember if it was the B8 3.0T or the B9 3.0T, but some third-party filters being sold as for that engine were actually too short. Don't think it applied to vendors like Hengst or Mann.. But you have both in hand, just measure them and be sure the first time you're using a new part supply.
