502.00 is recomended
you can use any oil above 502.00 but it is expensive, 507 is for diesel engines with particular filters.

Default It *actually* calls for low-ash VW 504 in the ROW. 502 is old 1998 spec, sequence run on VW 2.Slo

and the VW 502 oil the dealers use, Syntec 5w-40 uses an old Mg-Based additive package. Castrolis the official oil of VW, maybe ask for dealer "SLX Pro" 5w-30 of you wnt a real VW 504 oil. Like I said the Syntec 5w-40 is a total skip. Syntec 0w-30 is much better, factory-fill for 1.8ts. Mobil 1 0w-40 or 5w-40 Turbo Truck or Shell Rotella T Synth 5w-40 are all better oils. I would say that Mobil 1 Hi-Miles 10w-30 and esp the 10w-40 in hot weather are excelllent too.

0w-30 Syntec from AutoZone and PepBoys

The ultimate FSI oil is Renewable Lubes "RS4" BioSyn oil. It costs more but you can run it longer. FSI has fueling issues that kills normal synth oil. 5000 miles is a must with all other oils than RLI.
