110k on Original clutch!cant get it into gear
my 01 s4 has 110K and its on its original clutch.I think... it had 50k when i bought it.
i went to shift from 2nd-to-3rd and couldent get it into gear their was no grinding of any gears it just wouldnt let it in to gear. the clutch still had plenty of pop so i kept pumping the clutch til i got it in second.
and after that it was fine the clutch felt good as before with no problems shifting.
If someone has had this happen to them?and what was the outcome?
I checked the brake fluid it was a lil low so i filled it up. it still ran fine and theirs no signs of leakege. but then it happend again 2 days later but this time i was parked and the brake fluid level was fine. i shut it down and engaged the clutch to start no problem, i kept playing with it intill finnally it went in gear and was working once again.
I have no idea why? that clutch doesent slip that bad at all it in farely good cond. for the milege.

slave cylinder
your slave cylinder is failing, I recommend you replace the master as well
common on these cars to act like that
If it was a synchro it would not get better at all as it is a mechanical part that when it wears beyond normal use it never performs good anymore
Keep in mind also that you have a self adjusting pressure plate that can jump and run out of the grabbing range, but usually never gets back
My best suggestion is to check or replace the slave and master cylinders
usually only the 2nd gear synchro fails in these transmissions
