KO4 Turbo upgrade?
Throughout the past year, I've heard my turbos progressively get a louder whine to them. I've been reading about turbo failure in other posts and have decided to change them out. Now, my car has over 57k miles and has an X chip in it. As of now I can only afford to change out the turbos only. My question is, will any other mods need to be done with this swap to make my car drivable? Also, what is the average cost of this as far as labor? Thanks in advance!!

I believe you can go stage 3- with just a basic K04 install no fueling.
But you will need to make the turbos fit. You will need k04 inlets or custom made to fit k03 inlets.
By the way, 57K miles is kind of low to be thinking of swapping turbos, you still have a lot of life left in them unless you have been hard on your car and they are making noises.
If you have piggies they get louder.
Exhaust makes them louder too.
Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the 2 cents. That's the info I was inquiring about. I didn't think it would just be an easy swap of turbos and hook everything back up! Are these turbos bigger in size too? Is that what you mean by fit? They are making noises...like a siren. It's not extremely loud yet, but I've noticed it progressively has gotten louder within the past few months.

Yeah it pretty much is a simple swap of turbos, but you will need inlets.
Inlets can get pretty pricy but they are a must!
If your stock K03s are starting to sound like a siren then yes they are going bad, and that sucks. But your upgrading the k04s so thats good.
K04s are more expensive $2200+ new
And if your going with K04s your going to have to do a few things while you have the engine out.
New clutch,
Timing belt
Motor/Transmission Mounts
Water pump...etc
plus install....thats expensive
Going stage 3 is nice but a very expensive road.
For now i would say stay out of boost to prolong the life of your turbos.
Oh and use the subject line for quick responses.

Ok, now I got two question for you.
1. Why does it seem like only you and I answer questions on here.
2. You recommend putting a MBC on a Stage 1 or 2 due to a GIAC-X chip?
Im running the same chip and I have noticed spikes but I always thought they were normal. Everyone spikes then tappers off to around 14 psi for a stage 1 or 2.
How will a MBC control spikes?
JK about the first question.

easy questions.
1. cause I'm full of crap and know nothing about the vehicle
2. depending on which software revision. If you have one of the earlier revisions that spikes to 20 psi, I would recommend one and to cap it at 18 psi. However, if you have the latest revision from Giac, there really isn't any need, as you should see spikes in the 18 psi range and then it should taper from there.
Depending on which type of MBC you get, it will control spikes by bleeding pressure above what your limit is set.

My car was chipped in late 07. I asked the shop and I was told it was the GIAC-X chip.
But I think I will invest in a MBC anyways.
Has there been any other revisions since then?
Now I am curious. Darn it!
