I'm in need of assistance. I had a small oil leak on the passenger side which I thought I diagnosed as the typical cam tensioner gasket failure so I replaced that. Unfortunately that has not fixed the leak. It appears to me that the valve cover gasket is failing (although I replaced it when I replaced the cam tensioner gasket) or the valve cover is warped or something. Now there is a new wrinkle in that I believe is not helping things. The bottom left (by the firewall) stud is stripped. I try to tighten the nut and it just turns. For those who are more mechanically savy than me, do I need to extract the stud and then rethread it and put a new one in? Where would I get a slightly larger stud to replace the one I take out? Has anyone had this issue before?

If the bolt is not tight the gasket is going to leak,
to answer your question; yes remove the bolt, re-thread, and replace.

Hi,I'm sorry that I can't help you with the stud problem, but I can certainly sympathize, what a pain in the rear!!! I just replaced my passenger side valve gasket and I think it is still leaking, but the real problem is that something is wrong with the vacuum or fuel system, because the rpms jerk all over the place with a vacuum leak or intermitant fueling. It's so bad I am going to have to have it towed to have it looked at-what a PAIN!!!
