Default Actual hp vs. rated hp

Excited about the new forum. Just something to throw out there. Obviously the 2.8 is rated at 190hp as we all know, but I've heard some people dynoing at stock and getting much more than that. Can anyone confirm?

Also wondering about my K&N air filter...someone told me it'd give me 4-5hp at the crank and 2-3 at the wheels, and I've also heard that it does nothing. Thoughts, opinions?

Default id say probably nothing. and make sure you don't over oil the filter.

you could always do those dyno tests and find out. I don't recall seeing anything posted.

Default I have seen the same exact car dyno 8HP higher on the same day with the same setup

2-3 HP (or whatever power it is from the filter) will be negligable, and not really noticable. In the big scheme of things, stuff adds up though.

Default I feel more power.

Have you ever noticed that a dirty air filter robs a car of power? Why?

Same reason why a K&N will give you additional hp over the stock filter.

I felt a big difference when I put mine in.

I also took this pre-filter screen out.

I noticed about 35hp+ from this mod alone. I decided I didn't need a chip afterall. =)

Default Taking out that pre-filter screen can not be good..Look at all the crap it caught!

I'm thinking that's a really bad idea, even though you're getting more airflow...

Default You can't really measure crank Horse Power so assumptions are made. I'm guessing that's how....

unless there is something else I'm not aware of. You'd have the take the engine out to measure crank horsepower.
