Default cam tensioner seals...where to get them... DIY job?

Anyone have any experience with these seals? Need to get them done so i can attend my first DE event in May. Shop wants $2000 for parts and labor. I am pretty sure it is these seals and not the seals that need to have the TB removed to get to. Please help!! josh

Default You'll need the special tool to compress the adjuster. If you...

are not fairly comfortable tearing into the engine, this is not a good DIY job. If your timing belt is anywhere near time for changing, do it at the same time - it makes the job easier. (I always change Ccam adjuster seals when I do the belt)

$2k is insane.

Default Cam seals...

I was quoted 3 hours for this job. $2k is insane. I am just going to wait, like 4driver4 said, until the next tbelt job.

Are you still near Danbury? I kinda thought you moved south, but I forget. If you do this job in Danbury, I'd like to help/watch if that's cool. FYI there is a writeup on this for the 2.8 somewhere in the archives.

I have the timing belt tools and cam adjuster tool. I loan then out for free to local folks, but I will not ship them. You are welcome to them when you are ready to "take the plunge".

No I am now located in KCMO. I think I am just going to buy the special tool and than I will finally own a SPECIAL AUDI TOOL!! This job will be getting done soon because I have a track event in May and they wont pass me until this oil leak gets fixed. Its definitly a pain in the *** but what do you expect at 145k? Unfortunatly the valve cover gaskets were done like 2 months ago and the TB about 3 months ago. I wish I knew about this before. Thanx for all the help and that awesome write up, maybe I will take some pictures of my own, Josh
