Default '07 A6 4.2 Engine Issue

About a week back, the MIL started flashing and the engine would idle rough and misfire during driving. Brought it to the dealer service and they indicated the coils were shorted and needed to be replaced. Done.

On the drive home from the above repair, same symptoms appear. I bring it back to the dealer and he tells me one of the replaced coils was shorted from the supplier and needed to be replaced. OK. Not pleased, but done again.

Picked up the car this morning and no problem on the drive home (about 20 miles). This afternoon, I go for a drive and after a couple miles, the MIL starts flashing again and the engine is giving me fits. On top of these issues, I notice that everytime I drive off from a stop I see thick blueish smoke billowing out from my tailpipes (some poor soul behind me got the whole Batman smoke screen). Got home and tried to start the car to pull into the garage and it just dies.

My question: Does this sound like bad coils or do you think there's something else seriously wrong with the engine?

I'm definitely not bringing the car back to that dealer. I will have to have it towed somewhere else and was hoping that I could have a little more information for the new service department. Also, would it make any difference to call AoA or is that just a waste of time?

Thanks for any info.

Default what state are you in?? Coils are definitly known to be bad, but

you have something else going on. As for calling AoA, wait till the car is back in the dealer.

Default I'm in IL. The car is back at the dealer and I have spoken to AoA

The service department can't figure out what the problem is. Apparantly, they've escalated this to the regional tech who's coming in to take a look.

Should I expect to have a problem with mine as well?
