Well, GIAC engine and tiptronic chips will boost you up to about 320 or so, then you can add an exhaust system which is good for about another 15-20 hp. I had the supersprint system on my 03 4.2... It dynoed at 346hp on 100 octane gas (with an internal problem I might add)...Thats about all unless you want to open her up and replace the cams with S6 ones and change the final drive ratio.. Also, running on the hy-est octane in your area helps a bit too..
BTW. The cold air intake is useless for your motor. Better to leave it off.. The motor gets plenty of air.. its the other bits that need help..

I dont know anyone who has done it but its one possibility for more HP gain..
The 4.2 in the S6 is the same basic motor with higher performance cams and a few other changes to get 40 more HP and some additional torque than the A6 4.2. I suppose you could order a set thru Audi parts dept but they wont do the instal. You would have to find an indie.. prolly not an easy mod as the ECU would no doubt have to be changed. Start with the chips and exhaust and see how you like that ..

Do you have A6 and S6 cam specs?
I'm curious how they compare to these for the A8. The valve timing below is from the Bentlety, 1mm valve lift:
.......................... ABZ ...... AEW ... AKB/AUX
IVO after TDC ....... 10 ......... 10 ....... 25
IVC after BDC ....... 40 ......... 25 ....... 45
EVO before BTC ... 30.5 ........ 30 ....... 38
EVC before TDC ..... 2 .......... 10 ........ 8
The ABZ 4.2L motor is 300 hp @ 6000 rpm, the AKB and AUX 4.2L motors are 310 hp @ 6200. The AEW is the 3.7L motor from the FWD A8 and is 230 hp @ 5500 rpm.
Unfortunately, my Bentley doesn't list the cam specs for the S8 motor. Actually, it Bentley contains a typo and lists the AKB/AUX motors twice. If anyone has a later Bentley with the S8's cam specs, I'd like to see them.

Do you have the European A6/S6 manual, the A8/S8 manual, or both?
