Upper oil pan leak

Upper oil pan leak
I have a 2010 4.2 s5 quattro. It developed a upper oil pan leak. I have taken it several places and was told everything from $6000.00 to " if i were you i would trade it in!!" I love the car but I am tired of oil spots everywhere and smelling oil on the engine. Anyone know of any other option? Im in Houston Texas

A bit late, but do you mean the valley pan? The oil pan that is between the “v” of the engine?
In that case, I have DIYed it myself of my B7 S4. It was quite a job, but it does require some experience to do. Though I would say it’s not anywhere NEAR a 6000 dollar job!! I would say if anyone quotes you over 1000 dollars, simply walk away. Ideally Id think its about a 700 - 800 dollar job.
edit: to give you a bit an idea how “simple” of a job it is:
- You remove the throttle body, you remove the intake manifold and then remove the oil filter housing, and there you go, full access to the valley pan! (Just make sure you change the seal on the oil filter too, that’s most likely leaking too)
No service position needed, nothing major needs to be removed!! This is on a B7 S4 too, which has even less room to work in than an S5!
The only real problem are the tons of vacuum lines and wires(about 8 wires and 8 vacuum lines and 2 coolant hoses, not the exact number, but somewhere around that) But if you know what you’re doing, it’s actually quite a simple job, and shouldn’t cost more than 1000 dollars.
Even the parts, I bought them straight from the Audi dealer, it ended up costing me about 140 USD. Though this is in Sweden, so I’m assuming if you’re in the states, it will cost a bit more
edit 2: the “parts” being:
- the valley pan gasket(metal sheet gasket)
- 2 oil filter housing gaskets
- 2 oil check valves
- 1 oil spray valve
