I just got a letter from AoA stating that they are extending warranty for Electromechanical Steering Malfunction Indication Light to 10 years/125K miles. Covers B8 A4 and others models.
this is good news- I had the notchy steering problem last year at 46K miles and was worried about it reoccurring.

Any chance you have a copy of this letter? I’m dealing with the dreaded issue and about to pay $4k out of pocket for a rebuilt (though warrantied) replacement. Neither mechanic I brought this to indicated an extended warranty on this item. I’m gonna be really peeved if this is real and I don’t get reimbursed. 2013 Allroad Prestige 82k miles…
I'm pretty sure the extended warranty refers specifically to failures of the J500 electro-mechanical control module, in the B8.5 model years, as that thing was/is notoriously unreliable, especially in cold temps.
There are threads about it if you look in the more mainstream A4 forums here and at audizine. Google search of "audi j500 extended warranty" brings up plenty to read as well.
Turns out my malfunction was the result of a torn boot which allowed for water intrusion and ultimate corrosion over a number of years. As such, no warranty coverage. Painful cost, but a local dealership found the only available new rack in the US and did the repair for $4,200 all in including parts, labor and alignment.
just happy to have my car back after 5 weeks of waiting…
I hope you made it clear to them you'll be needing a $4200 discount on any next Audi you might ever buy. That electromechanical rack has been nothing but complete crap since it came out.
I got the steering failure do not drive warning on my dash on my 2016 S4. I got a letter months before it went out from Audi saying it was covered under an extended warranty but since it wasn’t broke when I received the letter I put the letter in the glove box and forgot about it. Long story short I spent hours taking apart the steering column only to give up and put it back together and tow it to a dealer. They fixed it for free and gave me an SQ5 loaner for a week while I waited for the parts and repair. Shout out to Audi in Tucson AZ All for nothing

Same issue here, I look under the car and the boot is torn but I had no warning light I only noticed that the steering fluid is all over the wheel...
Having it towed to Audi I'm hoping it's covered.
Has anyone had it covered with the light not going on?
