Default Who did not replace the timing chain and tensioner?

2014 allroad.

The car is starting to burn a lot of oil, about 1 quart every 550 miles. I'm not sure what I want to do with the vehicle now. It has 88 k on the odometer and while I was hoping to run this to 250k, I'm now having 2nd thoughts with the oil consumption issues.

Long story short, at this point I feel like its not worth even replacing the timing chain. If that's the case I'd run it for another 3 years, 45 thousand miles and get rid of it. I'm curious as to how many people DO NOT replace the chain/tensioner. I realize its a risk, but I'm not sure if this is a vehicle worth throwing another 2 grand at with the oil consumption levels being so problematic.

FWIT, the car is mint and I absolutely love it. It pains me to even think about it.

Thanks

Completely understand. Similar position with my '14 (158K miles). Shop says new engine. Audi says its worthless. I'm considering doing the engine swap.

Interesting. Which engine would you use? I see a lot of people using the S/C 3.0. I've even seen someone using the RS4/5 engine.
Controversial but I would even go as far as saying, IF I had money to burn an a broken engine in an allroad? I would try to swap a 2.7T from a B5.. And stage 3 that thing.

Honestly, I do not know - been trying to discover what my options even are and for the most part have not found information easily. What I'd like to know is whether a new version of the original engine would likely suffer the same issues. Otherwise, it sounds like many of the "upgrade" options for the engine would require a donor vehicle for everything associated with the swap.
