Default downsizing for winter wheels/tires

Hello all,

I'm still months away from taking delivery... the order for my Argus Brown Prestige Allroad is no more than kilobytes in some system at this point.

So, obviously I'm using the time to shop for mods, accessories and most importantly dedicated winter and summer tires. Bummed there is not a summer tire option when ordering the car, but Audi seems to love to keep us wanting more.

Anyway,
I am asking if anyone has downsized to 17" (or 16") wheel for winter tires. I've downsized the winters on my current 2006 A3 and I love it because the winter roads in New England have the same topography of the Rubicon Trail. Would love to see what they look like on the vehicle or hear from anyone's experiences with swaping out the stock set up.

I have a set of 17" for the winters. Not sure if 16's will clear the front brakes, one day I'll size them on to see if they do. They are 225/55R17's which are tall enough to deal with cruddy roads without too much of the squirminess. There is a slight uptick in NVH.

Hatched, the nice folks at Tire Rack will be able to tell you if they have found a 16" wheel fitment for your new car.

Also, go to the Audi website with a VIN from a car similar to your own, assuming you don't know your VIN, and you can review what size tires/wheels are available from the factory by reviewing the Owner's Manual. That will provide a bit of insight.

I have the A4 S line. I live in a place where insurance will not cover you if you have an accident and you're rocking summer tyres in winter conditions. I got the dealer to throw in winter tires and wheels for free.

The summer wheels i have are the 19" 5 V-Spoke Matt Titanium looking ones. But for winter i got some 17" ATS Rims.

Apparently its related to the ability of the tire to hold traction in deep snow. Taller tire walls and smaller rims are supposed to be better.

In all truth, it probably doesn't matter all that much, since if you find yourself in a situation where the tire wall height would make a significant difference, you probably wouldn't drive anyway.

I feel winter tires in general increase the cabin noise... especially when it's not super cold out. I'm thinking 17s for winter is the way to go just to have that extra squish for those sudden highway craters. How does the car look with 17s?... I'm thinking "mean and wintery"
