"Engine Check" Light, Mechanic Said: O2 Censor!

Re: "Engine Check" Light, Mechanic Said: O2 Censor!
Presumably, your mechanic has a tool which can read the DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes) and that the OBDII told him that it was the O2 sensors (which run more than 200$ a piece I believe).
According to numerous accounts on this website, the OBDII used by Audi is very sensitive and numerous things can fire it off. Also, "sporadic" problems can also trigger your light and they are stored in the memory as such (ie.the dealer with a VAG1551 tool will be able to see that the problem is sporadic and will simply clear the light and wait for it to show up again under more permanent circumstances)

Very common replacement maintenance part. They should last 60k and up...
60k minimum. Our '89 Saab just had its replaced last year at around 130,000 miles. My '94 C280 went through one in 45k.
