Default $HIT!!!! Caught by CHP on a 65 hwp clocking@90 (yeah right!) Damn it! And he said...

..."be careful as your little car runs fast"
Oh man! Everyone runs around 80 on the hwy; I was just accelerated fast from the ramp (from 20->80)! Maybe the quick 20->80 run-time caught the cop's eyes!! Damn!!
Anyone know how much would that cost (cuz... this is my very first time!!)

Default The key on the highway is a) not to stand out and b) to not be the unlucky one.

sounds like a) did you in there...

you'd be surprised how often b) can come into play if you are just moving along with traffic flow (which is usually much more than posted 65 in the bay area during non-rush hour -- rush hour flow is nil =) there have been occasions where you are moving along in a line at 70-80 in the fast lane... cop comes up with lights on... you shift one lane over... cop nails the guy right in front of you. eeps!

sorry to hear about the ticket. i recently got my first speeding script for 35 in a 25 two blocks from my house. our taxpayer dollars hard at work.

BTW, the fine for the 35 in 25 is $87 for me according to the mailer they sent.

This was about 2 months ago....with a $15 admin fee...and $31 Traffic School fee.<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=3821"><br><br>

How do speeding tickets work in CA? How come you don't know on the spot how much your ticket is?

Default Sounds like the same in NY...

They let you plead guilty by mail...THEN send you the fine...

Default Explanation given to me...

The fines vary based on which juristiction you were in at the time of offense. The cops themselves have NOTHING to do with the amount of the fine... fines are a legislative and paper-pusher issue. So, since the cop doesn't officially have anything to do with it, they are not typically going to say a word about the amount of the fine. Of course... if you get a semi-sympathetic cop, they'll sometimes say, "you were going faster, but i'll write you for only XXX mph." The actual fine amount comes later from the court, but you do NOT have to plead anything until you see the fine and associated administrative fees.

I could be mistaken, but that's how I've been told it works.

35 in a 25? You might as well be walking! We got those 25mph limits here too, ridiculous.

It CT 20 over would be about ~$300. The fun thing with CT is if you plead no-contest and pay the ticket, no points.<p>Rich

Default 25mph is prima faciae (sp?) in residential... and he wrote up for basic speed law violation

i'll likely go to court over this, as although i can't tesitify without perjuring myself that i actually KNOW what my speed was... it was not in excess of what would be safe in that situation, IMHO -- def not as high as 35mph. i drive the route everyday (two blocks from home!) and the road was clear at 9:30am. i'd have expected the guy to be human and just warn me, alas he decided he'd rather do paperwork. i'm not about to take an insurance point for this.

maybe someone here could have some pointers for me if i'm off-base here. my record is spic and span up to this point too.

also, do cops have dash-mounted rear-facing radar guns now or something? he quotes he got me on "radar." i could only have gone one block off a stop sign before he claims to have gotten me. very odd situation.

Default Patrol cars can have rear facing radar guns on the rear deck. The display is on the dash.
