Just wondering how dangerous it would be if we don't change the control arms even when they're clunking. How long have you gone without changing them? Can it get bad enough that the suspension just falls apart during driving?

the bearings just get very very noisy... eventually they get loose and can fall apart. but even after audi told me they were very loose and to change them right away, i drove the car 200 miles then had them changed....
mine clunked, squeaked, and groaned before they were changed... i went about 18k miles on squeaky arms

they begin by groaning or creeking.... then progressively get worse, louder, more obnoxious and eventually the ball joints will just disintergrate to the point at which the steering knuckle will come loose.
