Could anyone suggest best all-season tires (Michelin or pirelli) fro my 97 A4 1.8TQ ??
I go skiing on the sierras about 4-5 times an year. For that I don't want to drive around with snow tires all year in california.
All personal experiences appreciated.

They are $62 now from the tire rack. Yes, they're a TINY BIT smaller(circumference) than the stock 205/55, but they do handle better than the stock size due to a smaller sidewall. Go stock size if $ is not a concern, but I wanted the better performance.
I had these up in VT many times last winter skiing and they were great for an all-season tire. No they don't stop as quickly as a dedicated snow tire would, but WTF. Who the hell wants to drive around on a snow tire for 5 months? For the time that you are actually DRIVING IN THE SNOW, like maybe 1% of the winter, just be careful. And this is not to say that I had any trouble in the snow. I had no problem dusting SUVs from lights. Just know the limits of your tires and the quattro system and you won't get in any trouble.
I highly recommend these tires for a good performing all-season tire. And they're alot quieter than my Yoko AVS Sports on dry pavement.<p>Cy...Pearl '97 1.8TQMS, APR: v3.1-exhaust-SS lines, UUC, Neuspeed, H&R Sport, Bilstein, AEZ Bimos, AVS Sports, ATE Powerdisc, R4S, Valvoline SynPower, Mobil 1, Autometer, K&N, Air Box Mod, Aluminum Trim...67.5K and counting.

I put 225/50-16s on my '97 1.8TQMS with stock Sport rims. Tires fit fine, no rubbing, and the speedo is accurate.
I chose Bridgestone RE71s, but probably will choose something else next time (but not due to the Firestone/Bridgestone controversy).
