~~~~ Advice requested regarding front plate ticket ~~~~
I have a court date for Dec 21st for a missing front plate. Cop was nice, gave me a missing front plate ticket instead of taking away my license for speeding. Should I
1) go to court and plead guilty and tell the judge it's been fixed + show proof.
2) go to court and plead not guilty with the same explanation, even though I was guilty of not having a front plate when the ticket was issued.
3) plead guilty through the mail + write an explanation.
I really don't want to go to court, I'm sure I'll end up waiting forever to be heard
Thanks in advance,
Waseem
Just mail it in...
I got a "no-plate" ticket when I first got my car last year. It was a $55 ticket issued in Manhattan. I got it fixed, and talked to the judge. He knocked it down to $35.
For a paltry $20 difference, I would have just paid the whole damn fine and saved myself a day in court.
Just be happy that you didn't get that speeding ticket, pay the fine via USPS, and do something productive with your day instead of going to court.
Have fun,
Peter
PS Anywhere outside of Manhattan, I am sure that your ticket is less than $55. How much are you really going to save by going to court ? Is that amount of money (or your principles) worth your time ?
Be careful
I was sort of in the same situation last month; debating whether or not to go to court and fight my speeding ticket. This is in CT.
I had already spoken with the state attorney at a preliminary court appearance, and he told me he would recommend to the judge to have my license suspended at my next appearance (real trial w/ judge & cop). He said this because I had mentioned I had other speeding tickets on my driving record. I don't know if he blurted this out in hopes of scaring me not to come back for a trial appearance, but in any event, it worked. I paid the ticket. I couldn't risk having my license suspended for a month at the discression of some state attorney & judge (even though I was under the limit of tix's for reg DMV suspension). I paid the ticket and am keeping my fingers crossed that my insurance rate doesn't go up (*knock on wood*).
Is this true? In CA, is it illegal for a cop to give a no front license plate ticket without first..
