Hi everyone,
I guess this is my first post here anyway, I just bought 2004 A4 1.8T Quattro and I couldnt resist to put some mods on it. I had previously few BMWs heavily moded, but I like Quattro feature, especially that I live in Chicago
Ok, back to the topic.....
First thing on my list was of course tinting. Car is Dolphin grey so 35% tint looks great on it. But the most usefull mod fir me is Navigation. I'm always lost, maybe not on my way to work or the places I know but hey Chicago is a big city and somethimes I need some guide.
I started with research on the net trying to find any picture of something like that already installed in Audi. Well...I found nothing There is some info about Navi+ and few others but I wanned something with great software and features and big screen. I tought about in-dash units but most of them look just UGLY!!!. hmm maybe except Clarion DVD but Clarion recently resign from making any kind of navigations.
So from all my 6 weeks research I found out that Pioneer is one of the best on the market right now. But their in-dash units doesn't look attractive and I didn't really want to uninstall my originall Bose system. So I choosed to go with Touchscreen monitor and Avic-80 navigation unit. They even had already package which combain those two - NAV-SYS610T.
Of course first thing I did is planning where to place monitor so I can have easy access, clear view and I could leave it in the car with no fear that it will be stolen. I spent 2 hours just sitting in the car and looking for best place to install. Finally I choosed to put monitor in the visor and DVD unit in the trunk. I made appontment with my installer and went to his place to leave my car for whole day (yes - it takes whole day if you want it to look like factory install). But he looked at it and said that I'm not going to be happy with visor install. He did my previous 3 cars so I kinda trusted him especially my visors are small and they have garage opener buttons. So we sit again and look...I didn't want to constantly attach and detach my screen so mounting on the dasbord was out of question, in the glove-box ....too far to access.....hmmm finaly he spotted the place you normally don't look at. Place where ONSTAR button supose to be if you have this option but if you dont, then you have piece of plastic cover. This is 45 degrees spot next to lights and sunroof opener...SWEEEET. Easy access, view maybe not the best in the world but hey, this screen can be easy viewed from 35 degrees any direction not to mention that mostly you just listen to the voice.
I agreed and he installed my nav over there. When I came to pickup the car I was super happy I knew there was a lot of wireing but car looked untouched except small GPS antenna in the front (you can connect it to XM antenna on the roof if you have XM). And the most important thing..... people from the outside can't see your screen unless they know it's there
I thought I will have problems to see the screen from the seat but I was nicely surpriced that view was clear and nice. If you really want you can also install your screen in the angle to the driver but my flat install is working perfect, I', 100% happy.
What elese I can say? This unit is just great, response time and features are amazing, It's DVD so you have all maps loaded along with Phone number search For all those people looking for good nav I strongly recommend NAV-SYS610T. You can also connect set of screen for rear entertainment but A4 have very small headrests and I dont really watch DVDs in the car
Now..most important thing...MONEY $$$$$
When I asked any installer about price for this unit installed, most of them told me prices around $2500-2700. But that was way too expensive for me especially that install was only $300-350. So I found plentu of those units on eBay for $1350-1400 and I bought one. So total cost with installation is $1700. I can live with that especially that Audi dealer offered me Audi nav for over $2000 and thats only arrows+voice. Not even close to thing I have now.
....ok enough typing, I guess it's time for some pictures

Looks good, and it's nice to meet you but you might want to also post at the other A4 forum for cars like yours on the B6 chassis:

Audi A4 B6 chassis (2002-) forum
