'01 1.8t tip quatro, researching chip upgrade

I drive a 2001 1.8t tip quatro and am considering a chip upgrade. Is there a general consensus as to what the best way/supplier or most cost effective way to go is? Do I need a chip for the tip as well? Anything else I should consider doing while this is being done?
