My wife tried pumping the brakes and so did I after the car was sitting idle for about 10min after they stopped working. It created absolutely no additional braking.
I assume that it wasn't an issue with pressurizing the system as it is typically when a master cylinder is going out. Basically, pumping the brakes would raise the brake pedal up an inch or so from the floor but not actually produce any braking as a result.
