Default 1.8T Coolant leak

I know I have a coolant leak (smell, level at minimum in the resevoir when car is warmed up), but I'm looking for some direction on where to start. It is most likely at the back of the engine bay, since I can see the dried whitish residue in spots. What are some common things that I should be checking? I've heard the coolant temp sensor thrown about on occasion. Pictures are always helpful. Thanks.

Default did you check by the oil cooler?

those pipes are prone to failure. Look right where your oil filter is. Do you see any dried up pink crud? If you do, chances are it's the point of your leak. When I did mine, I had to razor blade the pipes off. And change the clamps. The ones that Audi uses are crap IMO.

Default Would those be

the hoses connected to 23? I'll check them out.

Default I'm about to replace this on mine--->

This flange connects to the back of the head. It's what the temp sensor sits in and a couple other coolant lines connect to. I've got a gunky pink mess all over the top of my tranny and I'm guessing it's coming from this part....somewhere. Maybe just needs a new o-ring to the head. It's only $7 at the dealer anyways. Good luck.

Take a flash light and look at the engine side of the radiator(side seals). These have a tendency to leak slowly and it will burn off.
Others:
-oil cooler
-coolant temp switch o-ring
-waterpump housing
-check for crack in coolant bottle (their starting to show age relayed issues).
Good luck.
