1.8T Quattro Gear Ratios
OK, I've read 20 pages of Q vs FWD postings in the archves. I definitely know the Pros and Cons of both. However, one question still lingers in my head:
Audi uses different gear ratios in the Quattro to keep acceleration on par with the lighter FWD. Can anyone tell me the real world effects of these different ratios (in stock form). There must be a downside to these more aggresive ratios. Higher crusing RPM? Does the Quattro "run out of steam" after 60mph? What's the catch?
Also, can anyone list the ratios (and final drive) for both 1.8T models.
Thank you so much
Paul

Re: 1.8T Quattro Gear Ratios
Yeah, higher cruising rpms. Engine noise is not an issue, however, at the speeds I tried so far (100mph). I will some time consider a 5th speed conversion to address this.
Lower top speed (as you reach max rev sooner). This is not an issue in the US, as there is a limiter at 130 mph.
Lower gas mileage is another issue.
Live with it.
