1.8t running below half on temp gauge and now wont start...help
Is there any possible correlation? I was thinking it was a stuck open thermostat but now im not sure any suggestions would be great.

Probably a bad coolant temp sensor.
Try restarting the car when the engine is cold.
If the sensor has failed, the ECU might think the engine is cold, and dial in more fuel for a cold start. If the engine is actually warm, this may be too much fuel, and you could be stuck with a no-start condition.

when my coolant temp sensor went bad...
it showed half on the temp guage + CEL (#17704). replaced it and good as now... i even get better gas milage now than before when it was brooooken
