i was wondering if anyone knew alot about the audi turbos. my real question is, can you take one of the turbos off an s4 and use that as a replacement for lets say a 97 1.8t, and if so what kind of boast will that make? increase or decrease?

chip upgrades are common (no turbo swap)
k04 is an intermediate solution
big turbo (APR Stage 3 and PES T28) are considered big turbos for our cars and lots of people have the kits, big $$$ though ($4000+ not including install)
a few people have upgraded to larger turbos and do their own kits (search for Angry Alex and his disco potato turbo (GT28RS)

first off, you should search. but as far as turbo upgrades go, you can get a k04 kit. the k04 and k03 are the same size so you wont need a different manifold. check out www.awe-tuning.com and there are some other sites that arent coming to me. you'll need exhaust to go with it though. well..you'll need exhaust if you do anything other than stock turbo. typical k04 kit costs around 12-1500 bucks and you get the turbo, injectors, software and depending who you get it from some other goodies. if you want lots of power you can get the pes t-28 kit (www.pes-tuning.com) or apr stage 3 (www.goapr.com). both kits make about 280-290 hp. both are about 4k. pes is a touch under that, apr a touch over. but keep in mind you'll NEED exhaust. you'll definitely want better suspension, better brakes, etc. you'll also need a new clutch after not too long. ok, now you have a good headstart with the info. go check out those sites and search the archives (top right corner). plenty of options. and like i said earlier, if you dont have the cash, you can get a used k03 for really cheap. if you want some more pwoer you can always chip it (400 bucks, same sites)

Well basically im in the process of getting a used a4 1.8t its all stock, and its a 97. The dealer is giving it to me for 8k, but hes gonna give me a deal including a chip, full exhaust, h&r springs, and cai for 10k. so i will definitly be looking for a new cluch and flywheel. and i will be getting my kit and since i can find lots of used turbo kits on this site, im looking into that also.

You'll need shocks to go with those springs.
