1996 A4 2.8 quattro -- BOSCH 5 ABS/EDL
1 Fault Found 00302 - ABS Solenoid Valve Relay (J106)
35-00 - -"
Checked all ABS fuses -- OK
checked solenoid valve relay and return pump relay -- OK
Have good communication with ABS ECU.
ABS wheel sensor signals all registers fine while driving with VAG.
Reconnected ABS ECU under the rear seat.
Scanned using VAG shows ABS solenoid valve relay as 0, should be 1.
What do I replace here? ABS pump assembly? I read threads that ppl replaced ABS pump assembly and still having the same faul code.

The other day my abs and handbrake light turned on while driving. When I reached home I connected vag com which told me that the rear right sensor is not working properly so I thought that it might be a problem with the abs module under the bonnet so I unplugged the jack cleaned it up with the brush plugged it back in. now I cleaned the abs sensor with wd 40 and connected the vag com and voila equal speeds but the light was still there then I rescanned and got another error
1 Fault Found:
00302 - ABS Solenoid Valve Relay (J106)
35-00 - -
then I opened the relay compartment and found nothing wrong.
finally while I had lost hope I went back to the abs module pulled the jack and it came out. then I thought that something is not correct. I inspected the jack and there is a way in which jack is plugged in. slide one side in the lock and use the locking lever to lock the other side. as simple as that.

Same symptoms as yours: ABS and brake light on, and VAG was showing same code
It started intermitently for a short while, then it stayed on permanently.
In my case, the two high power metal pins from the ABS pump connector were corroded/consumed??? still a mistery !@#$%^%$#!@#$ Never ever ever have seen something like that..... Unfortunately the ABS pump modulator pump electrical connector cannot be changed separately (at least in my 1997 AEB). Did a workaround to restore the connectivity for the two pins, and all lights are off and no fault code.
Quick check - remove the connector to the ABS modulator pump. Any problem will be immediately visible. Check for any missing pins

Bosch ABS module failure is very common on B5's.
If the fix bove doesn't work for you, do a "Bosch ABS module repair" search in ebay, or take a look at BBSReman (google it).
Lots of repair services available, reasonable rates, most offer lifetime warranties.
