15W-40 synthetic oil?

I asked the dealer what weight synthetic to buy for my 15,000 mile service, and he said they use 15-40 (2.8 30v). I was planning on using Mobil 1, which apparently doesn't have this weight? Anybody using this weight?
With winter coming, I think 15-50 may be a little too thick, so I'm going to use 10w-30.
On the positive side, both times I've called this dealer (Rockville Porsche Audi in MD) to schedule service, they've been able to do it within a weeks time. I've been calling early after reading some of the posts about month long waiting times, and been pleasantly surprised both times.

Audi/VW engines are designed for the thicker stuff. Now, that being said, in the winter time, you may want to run a slightly thinner oil if you live where it gets to 0 and below. 20/50 dino is what my family and the respected Audi/VW shop in Dallas always runs. We've put over 200,000 on 3 Audi engines with Castrol 20/50 dino oil, and 1 with over 150,000, and all of them were still going strong before the car was sold. I personally use 15/50 Mobil 1 though.

Lots of people here seem to run 5W-30 just fine despite the warning, but why risk it?
I also live in MD, and am currently running 15W-50 Mobil 1 at the dealer's recommendation. That said, I find that it hampers acceleration, reduces mileage, and is probably thicker than I need. But the engine runs very smoothly. :-)
I intend to go with either Mobil 1 10W-30 or Amsoil 5W-40 at my next change. The latter is supposedly what the dealer uses for all A4's if you request synthetic (but they charge you $$$$ if you buy it there). But I think without a turbo even the 30-weight should by fine in synthetic and Mobil 1 is easier to find, so I'm still considering that option too.

Asked him about bringing in my own Mobil 1 synth and he said he highly recommends doign that as opposed to using theirs. 10w-30 does good all year round here in Michigan. Works nice on long hard drives too. I spend a lot of time on the highway, but my vehicles have always run nice and smooth.

I'm using Mobil 1 15W-50 per dealer recommendation (Heishman) and I'm in NoVA. BTW, I should be getting my car back at the end of next week. Blew the turbo, oh, let's see...4 weeks ago. I won't even get into the details of why it's taking so long. :-/
