Default I use 15w40 in summer and 5w30 in winter here in Canada. (m)

I find that the 15w40 is great in the summer but too thick for the cold weather in the winter. Although, I also find the 5w30 is too thin for the winter, I mean it's practically like water. With the thin 5w30 my car burns allot of oil and after about 4000km my oil pressure light comes on everytime I make a turn. I think my next winter oil change will be 10w30 (but that's not till next winter).

Oh, and I will be changing to Mobil 1 too.

Default Let me clarify.. For those with used/worn engines (ie many miles) over 60k.. [long]

go ahead with the 15w-50. But if you have a newer car I would seriously worry if your car is regularly burning that much oil. Have it looked at. Everyone else..Why do you think Audi is going to 0w-30? Hmmm. Because the engines are built to such high tolerances that the thick oil is bad for them and makes them work harder and pollute more. Why do you think 99s were having the check engine light come on with the 15w-50 in them. I have raced my car in the 100+ degree heat of Cali. and my temp never went over 250. Also on the 2002s they are going to every 10k for oil change. There are sensors in the car to tell you if it is needed before that. I have a hard time going the 5k now for how hard I am on my car. Synthetic is great stuff, but if it is too heavy the car just will not work as designed.

Default I just put in 5w30 for my 1.8T in DC

After a lot of reading on the subject of opinions and some facts, according to both it seems that for the summer in this area to use either 5w30 or 10w30. The winter would be more for 0w30 or 5w30. I think the bottoming temperatur on 0w30 is like -60 degrees which we far from hit around here. So far I'm happy with 5W30, but only got it done last week. Everything I read said 15W50 would be more for like Florida, California, or the desert.
