the roads here are pretty good. (san diego) so that's not a huge concern.
I'd go with the 18's and S03's, but I know that the car will be driven up to the snow fairly regularly (5 days or so a month, maybe 2 them in actual snow) but for the most part, well we don't have seasons here.
Then again, for that reason (snow) I don't want to go too low, plus I still want it to drive pretty nicely, and I don't plan on tracking it or anything....
thanks for the input though, any and all input helps!!

These are relatively new. I haven't seen any reviews yet, but am really curious to hear what people think about them. Thanks!

Get the larger rims. You'll suffer from rim envy if you don't. Seriously. Everytime you see the larger rims on an A4 you'll wish you got those & will probably end up getting them. That's how I ended up w/ my 18" CHs.

18s are mainly for the looks (and they do look really good if you keep the wheel gap down to minimum).
If you don't want to deal with bent rims (especially when hitting hard-to-see winter potholes), then 17s is what you want.
Also, as others already mentioned, you'll have a much better selection of all-season tires for 17" rims. As far as tires, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S is highly praised here, although very expensive. If you want better bang-for-the buck, consider Sumitomo HTR+.
