Question: Other than the higher hp, what's to like about the 2.8 Liter V6? It isn't smooth, has a very peaky torque curve with practically nothing at the bottom, and a chipped 1.8T for only a few hundred bucks can run circles around the V6. Furthermore, it weighs considerably more than the 1.8T which exacts a real handling penalty.
The 1.8T is a far more advanced engine than the 2.8. I don't understand why anyone would want the V6 over the 1.8T even at the same price. The 1.8T is an enthusiasts car. Nothing wrong with the V6, of course, but it isn't much fun.
BTW, my wife owns the A4 in our family, I have a BMW 328i, which I enjoy immensely. Even so, I have to admit, I drive the wife's chipped 1.8T any time she lets me.

But I never try to blast off of the line, that is where most of the wear and tear occurs on the engine.
I've owned a racing oriented vehicle before and I agree that blowing people completely away is more exciting than anything, but it is not fun unless you are adequately and thus supremely equipped. but it would make sense to me if Audi can already get 180hp out of the 1.8T why don't they tweak the 2.8 to get more horsepower from the 6-banger. If they are already planning this then I don't really need to ask this question, but it seems like a logical progression.
Just wonderin'
parkerpt
99.5 1.8T qms
