1996 Audi A4 2.8L Airbag Light and CEL
I recently bought an 96 Audi A4 2.8L non quattro. When i purchased the car the Airbag Light and check engine light were on. Well i got the check engine scanned with an auto zone scanner, the codes were:
P1409 Tank Ventilation Valve Circulation Electric Malfunction
P1400 EGR Valve Circulation Electric Malfunction
P0161 O2 Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 2
P0141 O2 Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2
P0155 O2 Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 1
P0135 O2 Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1
And as far as the Airbag i have no idea on how to check it or check what....the connection behind the steering wheel is good and connected and the dash one from what i can see behind the glove box is good too. I dont have side air bags so there is no connections below the seats. Please help me out!!!!

The EGR valve is controlled by vacuum. The EGR codes could be the solenoids on top of the plenum over the throttle body . The most common problem is a blocked EGR passage on these cars but that generates a P0401 code.

VAG-COM
98Pearly white, Ross-Tech (one of our sponsors) has them priced from the free shareware or a registered version for $99. An invaluable tool if you plan on doing any of your own work on the car

You can buy generic VAG.com cables on E-bay for cheap, the shareware version of VAG.com is VCDS lite which is free.

However to reset an Airbag, you might need a registered version of VAG.com from Ross-tech.
