Default 1996 Audi front seat damage

Last night I inadvertently left my windows down prior to a torrential down-pour, and my front seat bottoms were damaged.

I have called my local Audi dealer and I was quoted an astronomical $675 per side for factory seat bottoms, which is obviously absurd. The parts guy's explanation of, "Well, it is an Audi" did little to assuage my astonishment.

My choices are either to re-upholster or to swap seats.

My car has an early serial number for 1996, and heated charcoal leather.

Does anyone know if later A4 seats (1997, 1998) would be interchangeable with my stock seats?

I fitted some leather seats and door cards out of a 97 in my 96 A4 (June 95 build). The electrical plugs/ connectors on the seats were different on the drivers seat, but I swapped the old connectors.

I recently had one vinyl side panel replaced on our Toyota Highlander and it was almost $300. Stuff like that is never cheap.

Hi this is my first post. I just bought a used a4 2.8 today, my front pass. seat looks like this
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/c-record/4833264194/" title="Audi a4 2.8 by Crecord, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4103/4833264194_4f73d8664b.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Audi a4 2.8" /></a>
is that the type of damage that you are talking about?
The leather in the darker area is very hard.

Anyone tried a scrap yard swap?

Thanks for the tip! I'll give that a shot.

I would just order from the junk yard.

If you want the mecca of Audi Junk Yards (at least on the east coast) look up L&T Enterprizes, they specialize in Audi/Volkswagen stuff. They are very organized and can look up pretty much any park you want and ship it to you.

This is their info:
