1997 A4 : trip odometer shows code "1n1"..anyone know what this is?

1997 A4 : trip odometer shows code "1n1"..anyone know what this is?
I went to test drive a 1997 A4 1.8TQ and a code came up when I started the car that read "1n1" or something really close to it. The guy said it was because he does his own oil changes and that he doesn't know how to reset the computer. I though it suppose to say OIL not 1n1? Any ideas?

Re: It is indicating a service interval. VAG tool required to clear it for that model year.
So on 97's there is no oil code to indicate that you need to do an oil change? So I have nothing to worry about in terms of the code being anything serious? thanks for the info ;^)
