Default NOT true. You need to go by the VIN number. My car has NO football logo and is a '98.

That guide is not nearly 100% accurate, many parts were phased in during production rather than all at once.

Default I asked because still not sure after looking at the FAQ; not that I'm too lazy to search...

Do you know when the VIN number indicates that it is a 98.5? My '98 is an Avant and the tail lights look like the 98.5 shoots and there is no football Audi logo on the sides but due to the lack of Avant pics I'm still not sure and that is why I asked. Build date on my avant is Jan 1998.

I'll never understand why people always harp on people about searching. I'm all for teaching people to "fish".

But just admit it: you are all so bored that you are hanging out on AW anyway. So be glad I gave you something to do, lol! So OMG did it really take that much out of you and god forbid anyone be helpful without being condescending at the same time. And my default answer to RTFM is TLDFR!

Do take into consideration what TEB says though.

Default I've run across some bizarre stuff for sure. When Carson looked up my VIN and interior color code,

he said my interior color equated to a 1997. The color isn't listed as "Onyx" that year, evidently it's listed as "Anthracite" or something. He ordered my new front seat cover based on this info and it matches. I was kind of shocked when he called my car a 1997 based on the VIN and color code. Go figure. The only thing I really confirmed on my car when I bought it was the existence of 30 valves. For sure it's a '98, but it seems that Audi didn't want to scrap any components in the factory when transitioning to the '98 model year.
