I am the proud owner of a 1999.5 A4 2.8 5spd and have to say I LOVE IT! But only having the car for about a week I am new to the quarks of the car and am not sure how the car should act.

The problem I am encountering is that I am unable to shift into 1st at very low speeds, around 5-8mph (which seems reasonable to me) and sometimes (less frequently) 2nd gear at speeds around 18-15.

When I'm stopping at a light or slow down considerably in traffic I sometimes find my self fumbling around with what gear will let me in the gate. The clutch seems snappy and I'm pretty sure it's disengageing.

Like I said I just got the car so I'm not sure if those are not the correct shift points however it seems reasonable to me.

Any Ideas?

PS: it seems a little more prominent when the car is cold.

Block you from entering 1st gear at > 5mph or so

2nd gear should be a problem though
There was an S4 guy who shifted from 5th to 2nd by accident and tore up his gears

Happened to him 2x

hmm I'll pay more attention to the exact speed for 1st gear next time. Think some new tranny fluid will do any good? I know it won't hurt.
