Default I'd make a plea for help on your local forum. chances are someone there would

drop by and help you out....esp if you offer to trade services (or good scotch).

Default when you tighten the new belt it will rotate the gears toward each other.

I'm pretty sure this conversation has been had before. Like 4Driver4 says, how do you know the timing was correct to begin with. The only way to know for sure is to use the tools.

FWIW even if you don't use the tools and get the timing close, you might not ever notice it being off, besides some minor performance loses, rough idle and decreased fuel mileage.

Default I've done many tb jobs, most of them with the tools and never have I found the timing to be off

or the reason to loosen the cam gears. Maybe if you don't know the vehicle history on a vehicle that's already had tb done I can see this point. Otherwise if you don't loosen the gears and mark the teeth the timing will be exactly as it was before. IMO, it's more likely for people to get into trouble loosening the gears then leaving them alone.

Default Nothing to do with that. Used to be I could go back to visit and count every foreign car I saw...

on one hand. It's not quite like that now, but still very few Audi's in that town.

Default UPDATE..Ok I think I have it right but when I spin the crank...

there is a clicking noise at one point in the left cylinder bank (cyl.4-6)..It sounds like a valve seating hard but I'm not sure..Has anyone ran into this problem before?
