2.8 V6 30V Engine whine
Does anybody know where the high pitch whine comes from in this type of engine it sounds to me like an electric motor like a fuel pump or something, it is especially noticeable when idling. Can this be fixed. Also can anyone tell me if they have fitted a chip upgrade and if they thought it was worth while?

There are those who have the chip - It does fix the flat spot @ ~3600rpm
but IMHO does not offer much hp gain. Only real gain for this engine is the PES Supercharger. I do not run a chip.
I think the whine could be the gas pump. you can get out of the car to listen - if it is the pump it would be at the rear. If the sound is from the front - could be the alternator or the steering pump.

Is it noticable with your a/c off and the engine cold?
It could be the electric motor for the supplemental radiator fan, mine is vry noisy as well.
