Default My bad. Yes, warships (Destroyers)...

Checked the Navy site - front page said no commissioned battleships

Default The morale the Battleships provide validate their costs alone

Of course their ability to provide superior close support to amphibious landings, as well as their role as Tomahawk batteries validate their operational budgets as well.

Funny thing, the last time Battleships were called up for costal defense cruises was in mid December, 1941

I know its sad time, but its nice to see the old ladies at sea one more time. But my understanding is they are all currently decommissioned.

Cheers

Default Sorry Sameer, I meant Warships....

All battleships are now decommissioned. That is sad. No other image (not even a carrier) is more symbolic than that of the New Jersey.

Default Yes...they were too expensive to justify....

Battleships were obselete as of December 8th, 1941. My understanding is they are currently mothballed (though the Missouri is permanently decommissioned and now a war memorial) so they can be prepared for operations...though im not positive. Fact is, with powerful guns and a 20+ mile range...our battleships can deliver horrific firepower onto any coast, at a fraction of the cost compared to missles...but all that is from a time passed.

Cheers

Default And I worry the Carrier is not too far behind....

The support groups for these are simply mind boggling. But ONE loss with a cruise missle/torpedo would be a symbolic loss of mammoth proportions. The day of the forming a front line battle is gone. It's the individual, the cell that is the weapon of choice.
