Default 2000 Audi A4 1.8T Electrical Issues

Hello everyone,

My grandma has a 2000 A4 1.8T. The driver's side sun visor clip broke and my father took it upon himself to replace the entire sun visor. The one that came with the car had a bunch of wires going to it for the garage door and whatever else comes with it. He simply replaced it with the normal visor. However, he told me that he cut the harness off and tucked all the wires into the headliner.

For about a week everything worked fine. Now my grandma can't use her key fob, the dome light won't come on and the speedometer dimmer isn't work. I know that Audi's are known for their crazy wiring. Can I simply cap the wires off and replace any blown fuse I see, or would this be some kind of BCM issue?

Replace damaged harness and install the correct visor.

Cutting a factory harness is never a good idea.

Yeah, I cringed when told me he cut a harness off and threw it in the trash. My only question is why would it take a week before everything started to fail? Would it take that long for the BCM to go wacky, or are the wires shorting out with each other?

Driving around causes the wires to bounce around. You probably have a short to ground somewhere in the pillar.

As I suspected. The wires blew a fuse. Replaced the fuse, capped and taped the wires and everything works fine now except for the key fob. No idea what's going on there but knowing VAG, she'll have to get it reprogrammed at a dealership.
